Oude Knar is produced by Truerkaas, a family run business that launched in 1955. The company started when Evert Truer began selling cheese to the local neighbourhood from the back of his bicycle. His service grew increasingly popular and he eventually bought his first van then his own warehouse and the family have seen huge growth since then, now with the capacity to store and age 200,000kg of cheese. Evert was awarded a medal of honour by the Queen after 40 years of exceptional service and dedication to the cheese industry.
Oude Knar has a firm but buttery texture and distinctive yet delicate fruity and floral flavour. It is a very smooth cheese with a sparse scattering of salt crystals.
This cheese is aged for 9 months and is made with organic, pasteurised cows’ milk and vegetarian rennet.
